Purnulu / Bungle Bungles
The Bungle Bungles at first light - a brief window when the low sun catches the tower karsts and the striped domes seem to glow from within.
Purnululu National Park sits in the remote east Kimberley of Western Australia. Its beehive-shaped sandstone formations among the most visually striking landscapes on the continent. Despite their drama, the Bungles remained largely unknown outside local Aboriginal communities until the 1980s, and are now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Black-footed rock wallabies navigate the boulder fields, wedge-tailed eagles ride the thermals above and at dusk the calls of finches carry across the spinifex.
