Koala

King Of The Castle

King Of The Castle

A koala rests among the eucalypts, caught in a moment of stillness as its gaze drifts through the canopy.

Koalas spend up to twenty hours a day sleeping or resting, a necessary adaptation to a diet of eucalyptus leaves that is tough to digest and toxic to most other animals. They are highly selective feeders, favouring particular species depending on the region and season, moving quietly between a handful of preferred trees within a home range they know intimately.

Despite their relative status as an icon of Australia wildlife, koalas face growing pressure from habitat loss and disease.
